Seven dozen hanging baskets and planters now decorate Warwick

Warwick - Dozens of volunteers from Warwick in Bloom and the Warwick Valley Gardeners Club gathered early Sunday morning on May 20 at Scheuermann Farms and Nursery in Pine Island to prepare the traditional decorations that make village streets so attractive. This year’s planter configurations include hanging baskets on Main Street, bridge planters that decorate two bridge crossings on Wawayanda Creek and two different arrangements of flowering plants that will appear on South Street and other village thoroughfares. In all, seven dozen planters and hanging baskets were prepared and placed. The plantings were made available from more than 40 individual and business sponsorships in the area, together with residents who have volunteered their talent and time, a combination which resulted in the Village of Warwick winning the America in Bloom award, a national award for community beautification in 2003. All plant material is grown locally by volunteer nursery owners. Specific information about the plants used in each planter and hanging baskets, including their common and Latin names with illustrations, as well as other gardening tips, is available as a free download from the Warwick in Bloom’s web site (www.warwickinfo.net/wib/). Warwick in Bloom is an independent, non-profit group of volunteers interested in beautifying the community. They share gardening ideas and information with people throughout the region.
