Services during Holy Week
The following worship services will be offered during Holy Week: Vision Community Church, Warwick Valley Community Center, Warwick Vision Community Church will screen “The Passion of Christ” from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Good Friday, April 14, at the Warwick Valley Community Center on Hamilton Ave. Following the movie, a candlelit service from 7:30 to 8 p.m. will offer a mixture of traditional and contemporary music, meditations on the event of the crucifixion, a video montage of “Passion” artwork throughout the ages, and interactive stations in which the participants can contemplate the meaning of Jesus’ sacrifice in their lives. The newest church in Warwick, it offers multi sensory worship experience on Sunday mornings at the community center, which houses a nine foot video screen and state of the art projection and sound system. Christ Episcopal Church, 50 South Street, Warwick On Good Friday, April 14, a Children’s Service will be held at 2:15 p.m. Rector J. Scott Barker will lead children and adults through the events leading to the crucifixion of Jesus. The stations on the church grounds will offer an opportunity for children to better understand Jesus’ experience on his last day: as they feel an actual crown of thorns, help carry a real cross, and ring the church bell at 3 p.m., the observed hour of Jesus’ death. The service is an opportunity for children and adults to consider both the spiritual and physical aspects of Christ’s final journey on foot, his death by crucifixion, and the tremendous human sacrifice this encompassed. First Presbyterian Church, 94-96 Main St., Chester On Sunday, April 16, an Ecumenical Worship Service at 7 a.m., titled: “Our Faith Journey from the Cross to the Tomb,” will be held outside at the foot of a cross. The service will move into the sanctuary in case of inclement weather. A continental breakfast will be served afterwards.
