Seniors learn about life after high school

WARWICK - What do we do now, coach? Warwick Valley High School recently answered that question when it hosted a Senior Transition Conference. The idea was to give graduating seniors a chance to hear the experts address issues that will affect them next year as college freshmen or as young adults starting out in the workforce. Local speakers from a variety of different fields were on hand to offer their advice. For example Tom Fitzgerald, an executive from Warwick’s Provident Bank, addressed banking and credit card issues. Orange County Under Sheriff Kenneth T. Jones spoke on law enforcement. Dr. Jeffrey Horowitz, a pediatrician with the Herbert Kania Medical Group, targeted medical concerns and Professor Barbara Fiorello informed students about what to expect at college. Over 300 seniors attended the event. “The conference was a big hit with the seniors,” said event organizer Chuck Odom. “Many of the students told me that the conference helped to put them at ease about the transition to college and in general, life after high school.” Odom also said that Warwick Valley High School plans to make the conference an annual event and recommends that other schools develop transition programs that will help their own seniors move onward and upward after high school.
