School lockdown was just a drill
Warwick Wednesday morning, police from throughout the county descended upon Warwick Valley High School and the entire school was put into lockdown. Drug bust? Not at all, according to Warwick schools Superintendent Dr. Frank Greenhall, who said it was a planned drill. Rumors swirled that thousands of dollars worth of drugs were confiscated during the bust. But that was just a rumor, Greenhall said. Nothing was found by at least 11 drug-sniffing dogs, he added. “It is a standard drill and we do it every year,” said Greenhall, who noted that one was done earlier in the school year at the Middle School. “I believe in this. It was a good drill for the dogs and for us. We want kids to know this could be done at any time.” He said the lockdown lasted 30 minutes at the end of a morning class. Warwick Police Lt. Tom Maslanka added that the drill is one of several done throughout the year and that no arrests were made and no drugs were found.
