Scholarship opportunity for rural students

Warwick — Students living in the WVT Communications (Warwick Valley Telephone) service area and planning to return to a rural area to work after completing college or vocational school are eligible to apply for a scholarship from the Foundation for Rural Education and Development. The foundation is an affiliate of the Organization for the Promotion and Advancement of Small Telecommunications Companies, of which WVT is a member, which promotes activities that improve rural educational, social, and economic conditions. Past scholarship recipients include Brianna Horton of Warwick in 2005, Desmond Leahy of Warwick in 2004, Stacy Kaczmarek of Highland Lakes in 2003 and Michele Roche of Warwick in 2002. Applicants must be sponsored by WVT Communications, and applications are available at www.fred.org/scholarships. Completed applications should be mailed to: WVT Communications, Human Resources/FRED, P.O. Box 592, Warwick, N.Y. 10990-0592. The deadline to submit applications is Jan. 20, 2006.
