Warwick — The Alison Klepper Memorial Fund has been established by Fred and Mary Ann Klepper as a way to honor and celebrate their daughter Alison, and will award a scholarship each year. The scholarship will go to a Warwick Valley High school senior or an Orange-Ulster BOCES student who plans to pursue higher education and major in photography, equine studies, graphic or media arts. In 2003, at just 23 years old, Alison was killed in an accident caused by a drunk driver. She was a talented artist and photographer as well as an accomplished skier, snowboarder, surfer and horsewoman. During her summer breaks from Warwick High School and Alfred University, she worked as a wrangler and trail guide in Montauk. She also raised two seeing eye dogs. Alison faced adversity, namely bi-polar disorder, but she never gave up and always looked forward to her next challenge. Her greatest talent was helping others in distress, both people and animals. The Community Foundation of Orange and Sullivan will administer the fund. Over 90 charitable funds have been created through the foundation since 2001. Over $5,000,000 in grants have been awarded in the areas of land preservation, education, health/human services, youth development, the arts and culture.
