Schervier Pavilion hosts first annual skilled nursing fair

WARWICK n On Thursday, Sept. 20, nurse administrators at Schervier Pavilion hosted their first annual Skilled-Nursing Fair. The pavilion is a skilled nursing facility on the Warwick Campus of the Bon Secours Charity Health System, which includes St. Anthony Community Hospital and Mount Alverno Center. The one-day event, organized by Infection Control Coordinator Irene Caldwell, R.N., was designed to offer an opportunity for the testing and reeducation of the entire nursing staff. But although Schervier Pavilion boasts an above-average number of registered nurses and licensed practical nurses, the Skilled-Nursing Fair was designed mainly for the benefit of the facility’s certified nursing assistants. “Nursing assistants are the backbone of long-term care,” said Jodie Collins, director of nursing services. “We couldn’t do without them.” In addition to the nursing staff at Schervier Pavilion, participants included nurses and nursing assistants from St. Anthony Community Hospital and Mount Alverno, all of share the Warwick Campus, in addition to nursing students from Orange County Community College participated in the training and education programs. The in-house fair also featured information and product displays provided by medical supply vendors. “I would like to take this opportunity,” said Schervier Pavilion Administrator Michael Deyo, “to thank all those who helped organize this Skilled Nursing Fair. All of our nursing assistants must be certified. They take a Federal examination to certify and they must renew their certification every two years.
