Warwick — The New York State Department of Education has informed Principal Roger Longfield that Sanfordville Elementary School is being considered for State and possible National Blue Ribbon Recognition for 2012. Each year, the U.S. Department of Education’s National Blue Ribbon Schools Program honors public and private K-12 schools that are either academically superior in their state or that demonstrate dramatic gains in student achievement. Sanfordville is one of 25 potential Blue Ribbon nominees at the state level. The school’s nomination is based on the 2011 Grades 3-5 English/Language Arts and Math assessment scores under the category, “Exemplary High Performing Schools.” Only 19 schools statewide can be selected to move on to the national level. The final word on Sanfordville’s nomination is not yet known. “Suffice it to say,” said Longfield in the district’s press release announcing the selection, “it is quite an honor to be selected and noticed in the first place from all of the almost 3,000 elementary schools in New York State.”
