Warwick - On July 27, Winslow Therapeutic Center held a reception for the honorees of its annual Denim and Diamonds Gala, which will be held Nov. 5 at the Falkirk Estate and Country Club in Central Valley. The weather was near-perfect as guests gathered in the Winslow gazebo to celebrate former Congressman Ben Gilman and Michael Kennedy who will be honored for their long-time support of the riders at Winslow, the premier facility for therapeutic riding in Orange County. Gilman’s support has been instrumental in informing the public of the work of Winslow and the benefits of therapeutic riding. Kennedy has been a long time member of Winslow’s Board of Directors and recently donated a hydraulic lift to enable the wheelchair bound to mount a horse safely. Guests at the reception enjoyed good food and refreshments and an opportunity to tour the scenic grounds of the 100-acre facility just off Route 17A between Bellvale and Mt. Peter. They were also invited to experience the work of the Center by watching lessons taught in the outdoor arena, as well as meeting parents of some of the riders who were able to explain how riding has benefited their children. Winslow provides programs to address the physical, mental and emotional needs of challenged individuals and teaches riding to anyone who would like to learn in a safe and secure environment. The organization, established in 1974, is funded by grants and the generous donations of its supporters. In addition to sponsorship opportunities for the 2010 Denim and Diamonds Gala, the “Winslow Courier,” produced through Straus News, will be distributed at the gala. It will also be circulated in The Advertiser-News, The Photo News and The Warwick Advertiser, and will reach 30,000 homes and businesses in this area.
