‘Princess' cat awaits home

Warwick — Roberta, a petite pastel calico cat about one year old, is now at the Warwick Valley Humane Society shelter awaiting a good home. She was born with a mild neurological disorder called cerebellar hypoplasia, which means damage to the part of her brain that controls her balance and coordination. She is wobbly on her feet, has no problem using the litter box or eating, but needs a little help getting to them. She may need help to learn the stairs. “Roberta is a princess!” said Liz Dimartini, a volunteer at the Warwick Valley Humane Society. “She is a very pretty, very happy, sweet young cat who does not let her disability stand in her way of enjoying life. She has a normal life expectancy but will obviously will require some special care, though she has no restrictions. In fact she doesn’t even realize she is different.” Roberta has been spayed and is up-to-date on all immunizations. She would do better in a home with older children, and other pets in the home should be gentle. The Warwick Valley Humane Society provides animal control services to the town and village of Chester. For more information about Roberta or the many other cats and kittens in need of a home, visit the shelter at 48 Public Works Drive, or call 986-2473.
