Goshen — The Hudson Valley Chapter of the Pony Express Motorcycle Club, local American Legions and the Goshen Knights of Columbus are sponsoring a book drive in memory of Howard H. Carmichael, an avid reader who also promoted literacy. When he was asked what he would like on the occasion of his 67th birthday, Carmichael answered a dictionary, according to John “Q” Quaranta, president of the chapter, Quaranta said the club consists of U.S. Postal employees as well as other federal, state and local municipal workers. They are looking to collect new and used books for adults and children that will then be distributed to hospitals and day care centers in the area. “We are also looking for adult books with large print to donate to our senior citizens,” he added. Donations will be accepted Saturday, March 31, through Saturday, April 14, at the following locations: • American Legion Post 488, 532 Lakes Road, Monroe. • American Legion Lodge, 185 Wawayanda Ave., Middletown. • American Legion Finnegan Post, Monroe Road, Greenwood Lake. • Knights of Columbus, Bernard Matalucci, 217 Reservoir Road, Goshen. • Knights of Columbus, Hometown Exteriors, 2 Industrial Drive, Village of Florida.
