Polonaise Society awards scholarships

Pine Island — The Hudson Valley Polonaise Society recently honored its scholarship winners at a reception held at the CYO in Pine Island. Two $1,000 scholarships were awarded to Scott Glowaczewski and Sylvia Rusnak. Scott graduated from SS Seward Institute, completing a college prep course of study. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jeffrey Glowaczewski. His sister Sarah Jane was 2010 Junior Miss Polonia. Scott is the fourth generation Glowaczewski to live in the Florida area. While at Seward, he set eight school records in baseball, pitched two no hitters, and was a four-year member of the varsity basketball team. Scott will continue his baseball career at Iona College. Sylvia is the daughter of Ryszard and Bozena Rusnak. She plans to attend Cornell University with the goal of becoming an editor/journalist. She graduated from Vernon Township High School, second in a class of 391 with an average of 100.4! She is a lector at St. Stanislaus Church in Pine Island, as well as an assistant religious education teacher. She was active in many school activities, including Key Club, National Honor Society, both the French and Science National Honor Societies and the Tri-M Music Honor Society. She was also a member of the school newspaper and several orchestra and symphony groups.
