florida — Whether they already knew the steps or not, everyone who joined the polka dance classes held at the Polish Legion of American Veterans Post 16 in Pine Island this past spring had lots of fun. Sponsored by the Post and the Hudson Valley Polonaise Society of Goshen, the free six-session classes taught basic polka and oberek steps, along with popular Polish figure dances such as the Domino, the Bumpsee Daisy, and the Swing and Sway. Experienced dancers assisted instructors Cindy Zak and Darlene Fuller. The music was provided by Tom Zak of “The Polka Rascal Show” on WVKR-FM (91.3), aired 7 to 9 p.m. at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie on Monday nights. Anyone interested in attending any of this year’s scheduled polka dances in the area may send a request for information to polkaED@att.net.
