Goshen - Shannon Hansen, an officer with the Town of Highands Police Department, recently became the 27th recipient of the Police Officer Jason D. Conklin Memorial Scholarship Fund. She was one of 16 recruits who graduated from the new Orange County Law Enforcement Training Institute on Jan. 20. The scholarship was established in memory of Jason Conklin, a Tuxedo Park police officer who died in the line of duty in 1997. About half of the 27 recipients were awarded the scholarship for college and the other half were awarded the scholarship for tuition at the Rockland Police Academy. Now that Orange County started it’s own academy, applicants will be selected from there as well. The scholarship is funded through donations and two annual fund-raisers. A venison dinner, scheduled for Feb. 4, already is sold out. A golf outing will be held on July 10 at the Otterkill Golf Course. More information can be found on the fund’s Web site: www.jasonconklin.com.
