Pine Island Post Office hosts passport fair on April 2

Pine Island —As a convenience to postal customers, the Postal Service will host a Passport Fair and accept passport applications Wednesday, April 2, from 2 to 7 p.m. at the Pine Island Post Office, 665 County Route 1. As of Jan. 1, travelers to and from the Caribbean, Bermuda, Panama, Mexico and Canada must have a passport or other secure, accepted document to enter or re-enter the United States by air and sea, as well as for land border crossings. The fee for first time applicants for adults (16 years of age) is $100 (photo not included). Two payment transactions are required: $75 to the Department of State and $25 to the United States Postal Service. The fee for a passport renewal is $75. Passports will be mailed to the customer in four to six weeks after application. The Postal Service offers these tips for applying for a passport: · Fill out the passport application (DS11), before you come to the post office. Do not sign the application in advance. You can download the form from: http://travel.state.gov/passport/forms/forms_847.html. · Bring proof of US citizenship: original birth certificate (no copy), a valid driver’s license or current photo identification. · Postal officials can take the photographs. ($15 fee) · Have all your documentation with you. · For minors under 16 years of age, each child must appear in person and both parents or legal guardians must be present with evidence of identity.
