Pine Island - The two Pine Island Odyssey of Mind teams did well at regional competition on Feb. 24. They worked together very well. They worked very hard and the practices got easier. The competitive team was coached by Mrs. Della Powderly. They placed third out of 18 highly competitive teams. Those team members, whose problem was called “Around the World in 8 Minutes,” were Kelsey Aeberli, Tricia Brierley, Griff Dowden, Rosa Genetti, Zofia Wogen, Bridget Scheinert and Naomi Hanson. The second-grade team was non-competitive. They were coached by Mrs. Linda Kaplan. Those team members were Paige Palmeri, Carmella Sampogna, Danielle Serritella, Matthew Stevens, Alexa Yuen, Caeley Kardell and Luke Kowalsky. Their problem was called The Time Capsule. As Griff Dowden put it: “Competing is fun, exciting and nerve-wracking.” Joey Forbidussi is a cub reporter for The Warwick Advertiser, covering students and events at Pine Island Elementary School.
