Pine Island Chamber welcomes its student ambassador

Pine Island — The Pine Island Chamber of Commerce recently gave a warm welcome to Warwick Middle School student Christina Carmody, who is the hamlet of Pine Island’s first young ambassador to Greece and Italy, The 11-year-old sixth grader is among 40 students from the Hudson Valley chosen to participate in the 20-day People to People Student Ambassador program traveling to Greece and Italy this summer. The program promotes international understanding while building leadership skills. “I am so excited about the trip,” Christina told the Chamber’s monthly meeting. The high honor roll student will meet government Officials and students and engage in educational activities. “On my return I plan to share my experience with schools and civic clubs in our community,” she said. Christina grew up in Pine Island, as did her parents Ed and Debbie, and her grandparents, Vince and Joan Poloniak. She is raising funds to help pay the $5,399 bill for her trip. The Pine Island Chamber of Commerce made a contribution to their young Ambassador. Anyone interested in helping Christina can make a check to People to People Ambassador Programs and send it to P.O.
