Two piebald deer were spotted in the woods off Route 17M in Chester on Wednesday, May 2. Piebald deer are white-tailed deer that have a genetic abnormality that produces brown and white spotted coloration, similar to a pinto horse. Piebald deer can also exhibit other abnormalities, such as malformed hooves, short legs, bowing of the nasal bone, arching of the back bone and heart defects. Piebald deer make up less than one percent of white-tailed deer herds.
