PETA offers $1,000 reward for information on dead pit bull
Warwick People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is offering a $1,000 reward for the public’s help in finding the person responsible for killing one dog and possibly stealing another. According to Kristin DeJournett of PETA, two pit bulls were missing from their family’s Penaluna Road home on Dec. 19. The owner contacted the Warwick Police on Dec. 24. According to Lt. Thomas Maslanka, Warwick Police began an investigation but have had no leads. There was no evidence indicating that the dogs had been stolen, or had simply run off. A few days after the report, one of the dogs was found dead from a gunshot wound and left on the side of the road on Tuxedo Mountain, not far from his home. The other dog is still missing. Although DeJournett said pit bulls can be stolen for many different reasons, including illegal dog fighting, Maslanka said there has not been any indication of dog fighting in the area. However, the incident remains under investigation. PETA contacted Warwick police and offered the $1,000 reward hoping to help solve this mystery and bring to justice the person responsible, if a crime has been committed. Anyone with information about this situation is urged to call the Warwick police at 986-3423. All callers will remain anonymous.
