Pet Tales

We have been asking readers to send us interesting stories about their pets through our Internet site. You don’t have to register and you can even include a picture. This story was sent to us by Marlene Stabin. In June 2006, I moved from my home in the Village of Warwick to a townhouse on the other side of town. At the end of July I went on vacation and my cats were able to get in and out. I had a friend watching them and feeding them. When I arrived back home a week later, Kashmir my 3-yr-old long hair grey was not there. Because he’s a cat, I gave him a couple of days. No show. I began walking around the complex looking and calling for him. After a week I put up posters in the complex and called the Humane Society to see if he had been brought there. There was no sign of him. I checked at my old house many times and asked my friend Sue who had been a neighbor if Kashmir had come by. After a couple of months I figured he was dead or someone had stolen him. One day I get a call from my former neighbor Sue and she said guess who just showed up at my door? It was Kashmir and it was six months later! That was three weeks ago. I went flying over there and there he was, eating some cat food on her deck. I could not hold him long enough to get him into a pet carrier as he was still skittish. Sue suggested I get a trapper cage so I rented one from Agway and the next day we had him trapped. I took him home and he has had no desire to leave the house. I have heard stories of animals finding their way back to their home. It is still amazing to me how an animal even if the distance is only two miles can find their way across town to the old house. I am so glad to have him back and in good health.
