Parking added, taken away in village
Public hearing to be set before changes made Warwick Drive through Warwick village anytime and you can see that parking is an issue. Drive through Warwick village on a Saturday, and you will see just how frustrating that situation can be. The village’s Parking/Crosswalk Committee has been looking at that situation and trying to alleviate some sight distance problems as well. The committee made recommendations Monday night to remove one parking space at the corner of Bank and Main streets in front of the Bank of New York to help with better sight distance. Also, the parking space in front of Lewis Park, directly across from Village Hall, is on the chopping block. Removing this spot would give motorists a better view of pedestrians crossing. Traveling down Railroad Avenue toward Oakland Avenue and looking to the left, the committee said the sight distance there is not adequate either. It has recommended removing the parking spot on the corner in front of Caffe Ala Mode. One last recommendation to remove a parking spot is on the corner of Railroad Avenue and South Street. The committee recommended adding spots on Main Street in front of Warwick Valley Telephone and one on Welling, moving the existing police car parking spot closer to Main Street. The driveway cut on Railroad Avenue in front of Le Petit Cuisine is not an active driveway. The committee recommended making that a parking space. Two spots in front of the Eclectic Eye would be used as a loading zone. Another loading zone would be added on West Street in front of the Glen Bryon Salon. The first three metered spots there would be designated a loading zone from 7 a.m. until noon, Monday through Friday. Delivery trucks interfere with the crosswalk and traffic on that corner almost daily, according to the committee. Designating this area a loading zone would take care of that, they hope.
