Park Avenue's Olympic experience

Practise may not make it perfect, but it does make for great fun-By Jesse Sander Warwick - BOCES in Goshen was flooded with people Saturday, Feb. 25. Not with BOCES students, but Odyssey of the Mind teams. One of the couple hundred teams there was Park Avenue’s team. The team consisted of Niles Arner, Jordan Fried, Julia Heeren, Kate Kisor, Aaron Peterson, Henry Steng and Jess Sander. Their coach was the one and only Ms. Charleen Sommerlad. We worked hard in the four months, painting and writing and designing, memorizing lines, not to mention having fun. Days and days after and before school, we worked to make and improve the skit we had created. So we were confident, happy, and nervous when the day of the competition came. We performed and were proud. We waited for another five hours until the awards ceremony, where we found out we didn’t win first, second or third, but finished eighth. We were disappointed, but we remembered the months we enjoyed together doing it. I’ve been doing it since second grade, and love it, even though I’ve never won. As an overall experience, I can never get enough of it. Odyssey of the Mind is a great activity for all people. Just ask my team or coach. We will all tell you.
