Oversized traffic problem on Galloway Road

Earlier this week at least one of these modular homes remained stalled alongside Galloway Road in Warwick for more than seven days. After several complaints by motorists and others that the 16-foot-wide loads were tearing off tree branches and forcing other traffic to hug the shoulders along State Route 17A, the tow truck drivers were stopped by Warwick Police. New York State Police transportation authorities subsequently revoked all their permits for numerous violations. According to Warwick Police Sergeant Alton Morley, all vehicles over 8’9” wide must have a proper escort and adhere to a designated permit route. (Photo by Roger Gavan)
