Orange County naturalist to lecture on endangered frogs
Goshen Rare frogs, carnivorous plants and wild orchids are among the residents of Glenmere Lake, home to one of New York’s last populations of endangered Northern Cricket Frog, the smallest vertebrate on the continent. Jay Westervelt, a local naturalist who first identified the Glenmere Lake population - along with populations of the endangered Bog Turtle - in 1977, will speak about the tiny creatures and their exotic swamp neighbors. Hosted by the Orange County Audubon Society, the presentation will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 1, at the First Presbyterian Church, 33 Park Place in Goshen. The event is free and open to the public. For information on this event and membership in the Audubon Society, call Lynn Barber, President, at 845-744-6047.
