Montgomery — Applications are available for the Orange County Firefighters Museum’s Fire Prevention Educator of the Year Award. Last June during the grand opening celebration of the Education Center, a tradition began honoring a fire prevention educator. Educating children, adults and adults with disabilities on fire safety and fire prevention is part of the museum’s mission statement. Since the education center opened last June, visits have been made by Orange County elementary school students as well as clients of Sullivan County AHRC. Criteria for this award include innovative ways of presenting fire prevention and fire safety education to the public. Nominees must be a resident of Orange County or a member of an Orange County fire company or department, fire association or chief’s association. Nominating paperwork can be found at www.ocfm.us and must be postmarked by April 2. This year’s award will be presented by last year’s recipient, Amy Conner, a teacher at the Fostertown School in Newburgh as well as a member of the Good Will Fire Department. The awards ceremony will be held Saturday, June 2, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Fire Safety Education Center of the Orange County Firefighters Museum at 141 Clinton Street in the Village of Montgomery.
