On parade in witchy Warwick

WARWICK - On Wednesday evening, Oct. 31, ghosts, witches, cartoon characters and pumpkins assembled outside Lewis Park. In a departure from previous Halloween parades, the largest number of participants in recent memory headed down Main St. to Railroad Green where they were served refreshments and judged for best and most original costumes. In the past, the Halloween parade assembled on Railroad Avenue and then marched to the Warwick Community Center. The change of venue, good weather, 4 p.m. assembly time and daylight savings all contributed to the big turn out and at one point the crowd on Railroad Avenue reminded some of Applefest. American Legion Post 214 sponsored this year’s event. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4662 will host the parade next year and on alternate years thereafter.
