Officers to be honored by police chiefs

warwick — The 15th annual awards ceremony of the Police Chiefs Association of Orange County will be held at 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 17, at the police memorial in the Orange County Government Center, 255 Main St., Goshen. The ceremony will honor law enforcement officers on a local, county, and state level who excelled in their work during 2007. Awards will also be presented for Exceptional Police Duty, Valor, Meritorious Service, and Lifesaving. The Fraternal Order of Police will award its Police Medal of Merit. One of the officers receiving an award will also be selected and honored as “Officer of the Year.” The recipient of this honor will be announced at the ceremony. It will also include a roll call of local law enforcement officers who died during the past year and a blessing of flags and banners. Afterward, the Association will provide a buffet dinner. National Police Week is May 11-17. National Police Memorial Day is May 15.
