Night fire

Firefighters battled a fire Thursday evening, Jan. 18, that destroyed the building housing Dan’s Landscaping at 164 Big Island Road. The Florida Fire Department fought the blaze with assistance at the scene from the Warwick, Pine Island, Goshen and Chester fire departments. Units from the Slate Hill, Greenwood Lake, Unionville and Vernon fire departments were on standby duty at area firehouses during the fire, which started sometime after 5 p.m. and was under control about two and a half hours later.
