Three vie for two trustee seats Warwick— The village election season is officially under way. Mayor Michael Newhard will run unopposed in the March 21 election, while Trustees George McManus and Steven Pascal are joined by Eileen Patterson looking for two trustee seats. Newhard has won two terms as mayor — his first in 2001 against incumbent Anthony Portelli and his reelection in 2003 with a stiff challenge from former trustee Bill Wendel. This time, he will have no challenge. Both McManus and Pascal are seeking their second terms. They won a close election in 2003 against incumbents Lynn Miller and Bill Olsen in one of the most hotly contested races in recent history. Then, the major issue in the village was the ongoing condemnation of the Grand Union property. That issue is long gone, thanks in large part to the election of McManus and Pascal. CVS has occupied that building now for two years. Eileen Patterson is looking to unseat one of those trustees. Patterson, who has taken a leave of absence from her reporting job at The Warwick Valley Dispatch, is making her first foray into local politics. All three positions are for four-year terms. Election Day in the village of Warwick is on Tuesday, March 21, from 6 a.m. until 9 p.m. at the Goodwill Hook and Ladder Company on Church Street Extension. Anyone wishing to register or needing an absentee ballot should contact the village clerk’s office.
