Newborn pony arrives at Whisper Wind Farm

WARWICK - “Whispered Rumor,” or “Rumor,” for short, a newborn foal, is only a week old and in spite of the odds against him, he is healthy, strong and beautiful. According to Nina Lieberman, owner of Whisper Wind Farm on Foley Road in Warwick, pony foals are supposed to be born in the mild weather of Spring and not the harsh temperatures of January. But in this case the Warwick farm was never involved in the planning. Last March the foal’s Welsh-bred mother, only three years old, was rescued by Whisper Wind Farm from a barn near Albany. She had been left neglected in a field with little food, shelter or care and, at that time, local authorities had become involved. Lieberman and her husband Scott named their adopted Bay Filly “Demi-Tasse,” and shortly afterward it became obvious that the single rescue had become a double. Demi-Tasse was pregnant. Whispered Rumor arrived on Friday, Jan. 15 at 12:20 a.m. “He had both good luck and Mother Nature on his side,” reported Liberman. “Had Rumor been born in that upstate field of neglected ponies, which not only held mares and fillies but a stallion as well, he and perhaps his mother would not have survived. And here in Warwick, Rumor also had the good fortune to be born the first night in quite a while when the temperature did not fall below freezing. He’s had a mild week of January thaw to become accustomed to his new world.” This Sunday, Jan. 24, everyone can stop by to welcome him and say, “Hello.” That’s when Whisper Wind Farm, 39 Foley Road just off County Route 1, will host the first of its Winter/Spring horse show series. The show starts at 8:30 a.m. and runs to about 4:30 p.m. Spectators are welcome to view the competitions from the farm’s heated observation lounge. Future horse show dates are Feb. 21 and March 21.
