New youth choir begins rehearsals

’Come let us make a joyful sound’ Warwick - Rehearsals are underway for a new musical group taking shape in our community this fall that taps into the already diverse musical scene both here in Warwick and throughout the region. Fourteen boys and girls between grades 5 and 12 have been chosen on the basis of recent auditions to participate as the original members of a new community youth choir named “Jubilate.” The Latin word “jubilate” (pronounced “you-bee-lah-tay”) means: “Come let us make a joyful sound.” “Jubilate” is led by conductor, composer, music educator and Warwick resident Dr. David Crone. Together with a planning team led by Father J. Scott Barker, rector of Christ Church Warwick, choir manager Annie Barker, assistant conductor Stephen Wing and a team of interested musicians and community members, Crone worked over the past year to help bring the dream of this very special choir to fruition. He drew from talented youth from all neighborhoods, schools and all religious and family backgrounds. The common denominator for every participant is superior musical ability and desire to sing. Jubilate is a co-ed treble choir. The choir will be cast through annual auditions and will rehearse weekly at Christ Church in Warwick Village on Tuesday evenings from 5:30-7 p.m. during the academic year. Rehearsals are supplemented with education in music theory and history. The choir will specialize in the performance of sacred and secular, traditional and contemporary music composed for youth voices and will perform in a variety of settings from local churches and community events. Jubilate will debut locally in winter 2006. The choir has a Web site at www.jubilatewarwick.com for more information, rehearsal schedules, contact information, auditions and staff.
