The Village of Florida has purchased a $137,000 Sterling garbage truck, using a $125,000 state grant to cover most of the costs. The vehicle replaces an older truck that was in service for 28 years. On hand at the village hall last Friday for the formal presentation was state Sen. Thomas Morahan, who helped secure the state money; Village Mayor James Pawliczek and Frank Jarocki, village board member and liaison to the Public Works Department who together with board member Frank Pierce helped to initiate the grant process. Barely visible behind the wheel is Public Works Superintendent Gene Conklin. (Photo by J.J. Kimiecik)
