Florida - Six years after the Holy Name Society of St. Joseph’s Church in Florida was first organized by the Rev. Vincent J. Raith, the group remains a strong force in the well-being of the parish. One of the five original purposes of the group was “performing such special work as are assigned to it by the Reverend Pastor.” The current pastor and society moderator, the Rev. Joseph M. Tokarczyk, has little need to “assign tasks” as the members are quick to respond on their own in various parish pursuits. For instance, member Raymond Rutkowski took care of the making of Christmas wreathes and the decorating the altar and church for the just-past Christmas season. Much work at the St. Joseph’s Cemetery also is done by the men of the society under the watchful eye of unofficial cemetery committee chairman George Shuback. At the installation of new officers for 2006 on Jan. 8, Leonard Pawliczak, a member for fifty-four years, was presented with an award of appreciation from the Archdiocese Union of the Holy Name Society of New York. Pawliczak serves as the current treasurer and has donated his expert construction skills to many church projects.
