New non-profit to serve people with developmental disabilities

Warwick - With the formation of Ikan, Inc., the Hudson Valley now has a new, not-for profit agency committed to providing quality services to people with developmental disabilities, including autism -spectrum disorders. “At Ikan, our focus is on building dreams. We know that there are unlimited opportunities in our community,” according to Dr. Ruth Salkin, board president. “It is sometimes difficult for people with disabilities to stand up and make their voice heard. That’s where our staff comes in.” Ikan will provide Medicaid service coordination and home and community-based waiver services to people who live in Orange and Rockland counties. “We are not a big agency,” said Laurie Post, executive director. “We are committed to sticking to what we know best - building relationships, listening to people and building dreams.” Ikan can be reached by telephone at 508-6298 or via e-mail to lpost@ikanny.org.
