WARWICK - During the 6 p.m. news on Tuesday, Jan. 29, NBC aired interviews conducted by Senior Correspondent Gabe Pressman during his recent visit to Warwick. On Jan. 21, Pressman brought his camera crew to the Village of Warwick to interview residents for a special report on the upcoming primary contests. The well-known reporter explained that he selected Warwick because the population tended to vote Republican. That day Pressman interviewed several people attending Martin Luther King Jr. services at the Warwick United Methodist Church and later, he and his crew continued the interviews at G’s Restaurant and on Main Street. Among those interviewed were Town Supervisor Michael Sweeton, Town Justice Nancy D’Angelo, WTBQ Radio host Dick Wells as well as people on the street and local residents having lunch at G’s. Pressman was interested in what would influence their vote in the primary race for the candidate who might become the next President of the United States. “The main issue is trust,” said Dick Wells. D’Angelo stated that her vote would be influenced by the current state of affairs. “All the events occurring around us,” she said, “are making us feel like we are not in control.” Two local teachers having lunch at G’s expressed concern about the economy and one man, interviewed on the street, felt the war in Iraq was the most important issue. Pressman conducted a private interview with Sweeton and asked him how he would choose a president. “You don’t have to be brilliant to solve a complicated situation,” Sweeton said, “but you do have to have ideals.” During the TV broadcast, Pressman painted Warwick as a village similar to one that might be nestled in the Swiss Alps. He also described Warwick as a 106-square-mile area that is “solid Republican territory.” Pressman concluded the short segment by stating that the residents he met and interviewed had all expressed a “deep core of anxiety.”
