Nature Museum offers after-school programs in wilderness survival and dinosaurs

Cornwall — The Hudson Highlands Nature Museum is offering two five-week after-school program for young people. Dinosaurs The museum will offer a five-week after-school program for students in grades Kindergarten through two interested in exploring the world of dinosaurs. Youngsters will join Environmental Educator Carl Heitmuller to travel back in-time through the fossil record. They will meet a T-Rex, make fossils to take home and excavate a life-size dinosaur in the museum’s own dino-pit. This program will take place on five consecutive Tuesdays, starting Sept. 27, from 3:45 to 5 p.m. at the Outdoor Discovery Center on Muser Drive across from 174 Angola Road. Cost is $90. Wilderness survival This program for students in grades three through five explores what it takes to survive in the wilderness. Heitmuller will lead the participants on the trails, demonstrating some basic survival techniques for shelter building, finding food, collecting water and how to make a survival kit to keep in your back pack. This program will take place on five consecutive Wednesdays, beginning Sept, 28, from 3:45 to 5 p.m. at the Outdoor Discovery Center. Cost is $90; museum members: $75. Space is limited.
