Museum Village, concert series get arts grants

Monroe — Seventeen arts grants were made to organizations and individuals in Orange County, including three in Monroe. The winners include Museum Village for “Orange County Artists on the Village Green,” Music in Central Valley for “Sundays at 3.” “In four years we have invested over $200,000 in arts projects solely for Orange County residents and local arts organizations,” said County Executive Edward A. Diana. “We have supported over 90 programs in theater, dance, poetry, music, visual arts and media arts,” said County Executive Diana. “This money has a positive, direct impact on art programs in Orange County for and by our residents.” This year the top awards went to PEP Productions for “Ten Dollar Play Festival,” a theater festival of new plays and playwrights; and to Hudson Valley Parent Magazine for a new project, “The Kids Art Walk,” an artist studio tour designed especially for children. Other awards are: • Kings Theatre Company, children’s theater programs • The Harness Racing Museum and Hall of Fame in Goshen, “The Art of Currier and Ives” • The Rotary Club of Goshen, The Goshen Jazz Festival • Arts Alliance of the Lower Hudson Valley, “Art about Water: The Moodna Watershed” • Town of Montgomery Cultural Alliance, “The Montgomery Mastodon Project” • Cornwall String Ensemble, “Music Series” • Artist Derys Jadge, “Mommy, Daddy and Me Art Program” • Documentary filmmaker Stefan Swiat, “Surviving the Quarterlife Crisis” • Stormy Weather Players, “Pregnant Chad: New Plays Festival” • Town of Deerpark Museum, “Illustrated Booklets to Accompany History Art Murals” • Hudson Harmony Chorus, “Performances for Orange County Seniors” • Artist Nita Klein, “Native Ornamental Plants in the Hudson Highlands of Orange County” These grants are administered by Orange Arts, a program of Orange County Tourism. Recommendations are made by a panel of experts who live, or work in Orange County. Applications for the next round of grants will be available in September 2006.
