Mosaic design program for teens set for Dec. 2 at Albert Wisner Public Library

Warwick - Albert Wisner Public Library will sponsor a program for young adults on Sunday, Dec. 2, to learn the ancient and contemporary art of mosaic design. Taught by Nicole Sisco Heller, an art teacher in the Warwick Valley School District, young people between the ages of 12 and 18 will learn how to design and execute their own mosaics, whether as gifts or for personal expression. Mosaics are found across cultures and in many contexts, from ancient Roman and Byzantine interiors to Islamic architecture to early Christian basilicas. They employ individual pieces of a variety of materials, commonly colored glass, pottery and stone, set in grout to create a unified picture or design. According to the people at the library, this is a wonderful opportunity for teens to experiment with a new artistic medium. The program runs from 1 to 4 p.m. To register, call the Library Reference Desk at 986-1047, ext. 3 or e-mail warref@rcls.org.
