Senator James Skoufis (D-Hudson Valley) recently presented an Empire Award to CTeen of Chabad of Orange County, an enrichment organization for teens focused on community service.

The Empire Award is given to New York organizations that make exceptional contributions to their communities, according to a spokesperson for the senator. Chabad Teen (CTeen) is an international group with a chapter in Orange County.

“CTeens members go out of their way to bring hope and inspiration to their communities,” Skoufis said in the press release announcing the awar. “While balancing busy school schedules, family obligations, and personal commitments, these students volunteer their time across Orange County, distributing food to seniors on Thanksgiving, decorating gifts for children with special needs and so much more. I am inspired by this group of young community leaders and honored to present them with the State Senate’s Empire Award.”

The award was presented to some of the 40 student members of CTeen, as well as the group’s director, Chana Burston, and her husband, Rabbi Pesach Burston, during a menorah lighting ceremony in Monroe on Nov. 29, commemorating the beginning of Hanukkah.

“We thank Senator Skoufis so much for this honor,” Chana Burston said. “Our teens are very excited to receive this special award. CTeen feels proud!”
