Warwick — There’s a lot of “pillow talk” these days at Mount Alverno Center in Warwick. The residents of the adult home and assisted living program received 80 colorful pillows that now adorn the benches and chairs in the common areas of the facility. “It was just like an answer to a prayer,” said Kathie Deak, director of the center. “In the morning, some of the residents mentioned to me that it would be nice if we had pillows for our benches and chairs. And that same afternoon, this wonderful group of ladies surprised us with a delivery of dozens of beautiful hand sewn pillows.” The pillows were crafted by members of the Ladies Mission Circle of Holy Councilor Lutheran Church in Vernon, N.J. The ladies meet every other week to hand sew the pillows in an assembly line fashion. “I tell them that if they don’t work they won’t get paid,” quipped Vernon resident Marlene Clemins, who now heads the small group. Helen Luberger, who passed away six months ago, had once chaired the Mission Circle. “We sewed these pillows in her honor,” said Clemins. She and her husband Tom delivered the pillows on Thursday, Oct. 27. Mount Alverno Center, a New York State approved adult home with an assisted living program, is part of the Warwick Campus of Bon Secours Charity Health System.
