Local senior residents take wine tasting trip

Warwick A group of residents and volunteers from Mount Alverno Assisted Living Center recently enjoyed the fall foliage as they traveled the short distance to the Warwick Valley Winery and Distillery. The day was just cool enough to enjoy sitting by a warm fire in a cozy room while sipping a variety of wonderful wines. The Warwick Valley Winery’s post and beam Tasting Room, with its wood burning stove, provides visitors an opportunity to explore its offerings of wines, ciders, brandies and liqueurs. The winery’s representative Rachael Stein poured an assortment of wines and hard apple cider for her guests and explained how to smell and taste each wine for proper evaluation. Traveling to a local winery is just one of several local area outings including frequent bowling tripa and visits to sample homemade ice cream at the Bellvale Creamery or shopping at Pennings Market. And besides being nice breaks from the resident’s daily routine, an outing gives everybody something to talk about. All programs at Mt. Alverno Center are designed to meet the psychosocial and physical needs of the residents with activities that are not only enjoyable but are also intended to improve their health and quality of life. Mount Alverno Center, a New York State approved Adult Home with an Assisted Living Program, is part of the Warwick Campus of Bon Secours Charity Health System. The facility shares that Campus with St. Anthony Community Hospital and the Schervier Pavilion Skilled Nursing facility.
