Youth symphony expands

CENTRAL VALLEY — The Orange County Youth Symphony has changed its name to Southern Hudson Valley Youth Symphony and has invited students from Putnam, Rockland and Westchester counties along with students from Orange County to join them in their love of rehearsing and performing classical music for string orchestra and full orchestra.

The organization will inaugurate activities with two summer camp programs:

The Intermediate Level String Orchestra Program will take place from Monday, July 29, through Friday, Aug. 2.

The Advanced Level Full Orchestra Program will take place from Monday, Aug. 5, through Friday, Aug. 16.

The orchestra performs two concerts a year, one in the winter and one in the spring. There are ten scheduled rehearsals for each concert. Rehearsals and concerts at Monroe-Woodbury High School in Central Valley.

Meanwhile, to celebrate the inauguration of the Southern Hudson Valley Youth Symphony this year, the youth symphony is making plans to travel to Hong Kong to perform with the Hong Kong Youth Symphony during school spring break in April 2014.
