The bridge over the Wawayanda Creek on Main Street near West Street in the Village of Warwick is being repaired. Traffic patterns will change around July 8.
The work began earlier this week with the contractor, McNamee Construction Corporation, starting by closing the sidewalk on the west side of the bridge – the same side as Cactus Pete’s and Green Team Realtors.
First phase
This first phase will see the contractor replace the existing sidewalk on the bridge and a few sidewalk panels on the approach to the bridge, according to the Village of Warwick.
Both lanes on the bridge will remain open to traffic. However, there may be a need to temporarily close one lane and alternate traffic across the bridge at times.
It is estimated this phase of the work will take approximately three weeks to complete, depending on weather. The east sidewalk will remain open and access to all businesses on both sides of the street will be available.
Second phase
July 8 is the target date for the next portion of the project and will include closing the bridge to vehicular traffic. The sidewalk on the west side of the bridge will be open with access to all businesses. Vehicles will be detoured until the work is completed, which is estimated to be by Aug. 6.
During this stage, the contractor will replace the east sidewalk and the concrete deck on the bridge, as well as make minor asphalt paving on Route 17A.
Work to be finished by the end of August
The closure of the bridge and the off-site detour is scheduled to be completed by Aug. 6, again, depending on the weather. It is expected that minor work on the bridge and sidewalks is expected to be completed by the end of August.
