Wildcats hold off late surge to defeat Monroe-Woodbury for the first time since 1979
CENTRAL VALLEY — The Warwick Valley Varsity Football team opened its season last Friday, Sept. 1, by defeating Monroe-Woodbury 14-13.
The offenseConnor Perez led Wildcat offense with 10 receptions for 158 yards and two touchdown receptions from senior QB Jared Senius.
Senior Steven Mehling kicked the two extra points to pace the Wildcat scoring.
Harrison Parelli and Kyle Rooney combined for nearly 100 yards rushing.
The defenseWildcat defense was paced by seniors Nick Fotino, Jason Hranitz, Andrew Wierzbicki, Danny McNally, Noah Daigle and Sean English.
McNally blocked a punt and the game's deciding extra point to give Wildcats one-point victory.
Perez intercepted final pass of the game on the 20 yard line to close it out.
Next: Spirit Trophy Game in GoshenWarwick will travel to Goshen on Saturday, Sept. 9, in the annual Spirit Trophy Game. The kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at C.J. Hooker Middle School on Lincoln Avenue.
The team will warm up at Park Avenue field Saturday at 11 a.m. and travel by bus to Goshen for the traditional walk up the hill.
Parents and Wildcat Fans are encouraged to participate.
The bus will depart from Park Avenue at 11:45 a.m.
