'WE ARE NOT CLOSING!'

“WE ARE NOT CLOSING!”
The yellow and black printed sign taped to the window of the Greenwood Lake CVS loudly declared its intention to remain in the community Friday afternoon, while a small, handwritten addendum from management appeared below, apologizing to customers for any confusion.
Contrary to early published reports, the Greenwood Lake CVS will remain open, CVS Health Public Relations Manager Stephanie Cunha confirmed in an email communication.
“I am actually very happy to report that, that store did not close,” she said.
Resident Diane Dyne, said she was concerned when she heard the initial USA Today report that the store was closing.
“Where were we going to go now?” Dyne said. “Unless you want to go up the mountain, but bad weather (would make that difficult).”
Her concern was especially for older people on prescription medications, who would have a hard time if the store were to close, she said.
“I just found out when I saw the sign,” Dyne said. “I was worried about it, that people (Greenwood Lake CVS employees) wouldn’t be able to get good full-time jobs anymore, so I’m very happy for them.”
Greenwood Lake CVS management declined to comment, citing the company’s media communication policy.
In addition to the announcement that it is not closing, the store had another announcement to make: It’s hiring.
According to the window sign, part-time cashier and management positions are available.
According to Cunha, CVS Pharmacy made the decision to close 46 stores in 16 states, all of which closed in early April.
A recent report published in USA Today mistakenly listed the Greenwood Lake location as being one of those slated to close.
No list of the closing stores was available to share with news media, according to Cunha.
It was unclear as of press time how the miscommunication occurred. USA Today was unavailable for comment.
All prescriptions of pharmacy customers affected by the store closings were transferred to the nearest CVS Pharmacy location, Cunha said.
CVS Pharmacy also worked with employees of closing stores to place them in other available positions within the company, she said.
The Greenwood Lake CVS is located at 123 Windermere Ave.
