Warwick’s Friendly Visitor Program celebrates its volunteers

— Warwick’s Friendly Visitor Program held its second annual Volunteer Appreciation/Recognition Holiday party on Dec. 10.
Many of the program’s 50 volunteers were present at the Town Hall to enjoy the festivities.
Students from the Florida School District entertained the group with holiday singing and a small orchestra performance.
The Warwick ShopRite donated lunch and dessert for the guests.
The Board of Advisors and local elected officials also attended.
Board Chairman Vince Copello hosted the event with Supervisor Michael Sweeton, commending the volunteers for their valuable work.
Sherry Zambrzycki from The Office for the Aging also spoke and expressed her gratitude for the volunteer work that helps keep Warwick's seniors living as independently as possible.
Gerry Fischetti, who receives assistance with routine rides for medical services, also spoke of his extreme gratitude for the help he gets.
Doris Rubinsky from Jewish Family Service (JFS) also pointed out the essential role volunteers play in the Warwick community. She praised the growth of Warwick’s program from its inception two years ago.
She serves as the JFS consultant with the Town of Warwick in this partnership arrangement.
Warwick has a population of 32,000 people, 8,000 of whom are seniors.
EssentialsWarwick’s Friendly Visitor Program is committed to supporting town residents by helping them remain in their homes. Matching local volunteers to residents that need support is the mission of the program.
There is no charge for the service.
Volunteers are insured while they are volunteering.
A modest mileage reimbursement is available through the Office For the Aging’s Retire Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP).
A background check at no charge to a volunteer is part of the recruitment process following a two-hour training session that defines the parameters of the program.
The next training sessions for new volunteers will be Thursday, Jan. 17, beginning at 10 a.m. at the Albert Wisner Public Library.
