Warwick's 24th annual Duck Derby to be held May 18

WARWICK — It's that time again.

Warwick's annual Duck Derby, a popular fundraising event sponsored by Winslow Therapeutic Center, will take place, rain or shine, on Sunday, May 18.

Tickets are still on sale for the popular race and proceeds will be divided equally between Winslow and other not-for-profit organizations that help market the tickets.

Winslow Therapeutic Center is a not-for-profit organization offering therapeutic horseback riding healing programs for children and adults.

Anyone new to this area may wonder what the "Duck Derby" is all about.

On the day of the race hundreds of adults and children will be crowding the bridges or running along the banks of Waywayanda Creek in the downtown area of the Village of Warwick. Most will have "adopted" one or more of thousands of rubber ducks, each bearing the number that corresponds with the $5 ticket they purchased.

At approximately 1:30 p.m. volunteers will release all the ducks from the South St. Bridge, the starting line of the race. The ducks will then quickly float down Wawayanda Creek to the nearby finish line just beyond the Main St. Bridge.

There are 10 valuable prizes including $1,000 cash, an HP Touchscreen Laptop and Zoom Teeth Whitening.

Tickets are available at Winslow, 1433 Route 17 A, Warwick and at many local businesses. There are also approximately 30 other organizations, clubs and agencies selling tickets.
