Warwick Voting location for Warwick Election District 21 changed
Orange County Legislator Barry Cheney, working with the Orange County Board of Elections and the Albert Wisner Public Library, was able to change the voting location for Warwick Election District 21.
That District includes Warwick Grove and Homestead Village in the Village of Warwick.
The new voting location in the Community Room at the library, 1 McFarland Drive, provides a much more local site replacing the previous location at the Town Hall complex on Kings Highway.
In the past voters in Warwick Grove and Homestead Village had to drive past the Library by almost an additional two miles in order to cast their ballot.
Cheney said, “The way it was set up didn’t make sense to me. This move will save time and gas for the voters in the District when they cast their votes in the June Primary and November General Elections. Many may choose to walk to the Library on the Village’s walking path through the woods along McFarland Drive. I appreciate the willingness of the Board of Elections to consider my request and the enthusiastic and encouraging support from Library Director Rosemary Cooper.”
“Voting is the most basic of our democratic privileges. The Library is delighted to be the center of this activity and to help make it easier for all of our voters,“ said Library Director Rosemary Cooper.
Voting in Village elections, which happens in March, will still take place at the Firehouse on Church Street Extension.
