WARWICK — The Warwick Valley Teachers Association has awarded $9,000 in scholarships to a select group of Warwick Valley High School seniors.

The seniors won their scholarships at the annual Warwick Valley High School Awards Night on May 31. Students who were chosen to receive these scholarships were selected through a highly competitive application process.

The WVTA awarded Tyler Folino, Robert Linkens and John Garcia each $1000.

The WVTA also awarded three Teacher Memorial Awards for $2,000 each. These special awards were created in honor of three inspiring teachers who passed away during their teaching careers in the Warwick Valley School District.

Kimberly Scopetta, the valedictorian of the senior class, won the Heidi Villegas Memorial Award.

Deirdre Davis won the Alex Smith Memorial Award.

Timothy Beyer won the Sandy Shanbaum Memorial Award.

“ Each scholarship recipient has proven to be a well-rounded young adult, who earns high marks in academic classes, participates in sports, arts, music, extracurricular clubs and activities, volunteers, and has worked to become a valued member in our school district and community,” the teachers association said in the press release announcing the awards. “Congratulations to all of the scholarship recipients. The WVTA wishes each of you the best of luck as you continue your education after graduating from high school.”
