Warwick Valley School District recognized for excellence in communications

    The Warwick Valley School District received three awards from the New York School Public Relations Association, including the Award of Honor for its budget newsletter. The annual newsletter provides residents with information about the district budget, propositions, Board of Education candidates and voting. A new feature in this year’s newsletter was a “Points of Pride” color insert, highlighting ways in which the district is preparing K-12 students for their future.

WARWICK — The Warwick Valley School District was recognized for outstanding achievement in educational communications by the New York School Public Relations Association (NYSPRA).
Each year, NYSPRA sponsors one of the nation's largest awards programs by recognizing outstanding achievement in educational communications.
In the 39th Annual NYSPRA Communications Awards competition, the Warwick School District received the following awards:
Award of Excellence: Excellence in Writing“Focus on collaboration: looking back at a unique STEM service project."

This website post provides an overview of a unique STEM service project, in which high school and middle school students worked together after school over several months to make two 3D printed hands for disabled children with limb loss.
While collaborating on this project, the students not only learned valuable STEM skills, but also developed empathy for those with physical disabilities.
Photos taken over the course of the project show students collaborating on several tasks and closeup shots show the prosthetic hand creation process over time.
Student quotes are featured throughout the story, sharing what they learned from this enriching service experience.

The WVSD annual budget newsletter provides community residents with required information about the district budget, propositions, Board of Education candidates and voting information.
In addition, the district shares a budget overview and information about its spending priorities, propositions, new K-12 student courses, photos of students and more. The information is presented in a full color, easy-to-read design.
A new feature in this year’s budget newsletter was a “Points of Pride” color insert, highlighting ways in which the district is preparing K-12 students for their future. In the insert, special district programs and initiatives, awards and recognition appear in a full page graphic, with photos.
